San Antonio among the ‘best’ cities in the U.S., says national magazine
Every year, Travel & Leisure unveils its World’s Best Awards, ranking all things travel, such a ritzy resorts and cool hotels. It also ranks the best cities both globally and in the U.S.
This year, the stalwart magazine named San Antonio among its 15 Best Cities in the U.S. Each year, the list is selected by readers, who rank their picks based on sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.
Texas dominated the list, earning three of the fifteen spots. San Antonio took No. 6, followed by No. 12 Fort Worth and No. 13 Austin. Taking the top spot was Charleston for the ninth year in a row. Santa Fe, Savannah, New Orleans, and New York City rounded out the top five.

“The 2021 standouts are as far-flung as ever, and suggest a renewed appreciation for places that offer unparalleled natural beauty and, in many places, fewer crowds. Forced to think on their feet, the properties that made the cut in 2021 all found innovative ways to deliver exceptional hospitality to their guests,” Travel & Leisure editor in chief Jacqui Gifford says in a release. “Our readers delighted in taking trips closer to home, a fact we’ve recognized with several new domestic resort lists to provide even more trip inspiration.”
Texans looking to travel have no shortage of properties for inspiration. Also checking in with accolades is the Hotel Emma, which was named the seventh best city hotel in the U.S. (even above the famed Hotel Bel Air!).
As for resorts, the Lone Star State had its own category for the 10 Best Resorts in Texas, including La Cantera Resort and Spa (No. 5), JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa (No. 7), and Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa (No. 10).
Taking the number one spot among Texas resorts was Austin’s newly opened Commodore Perry Resort, a sprawling, 10-acre property featuring luxury accommodations, organic garden, swimming pool, and impeccably manicured English gardens. It’s inclusion comes as little surprise. Earlier this year, the resort was named to Travel & Leisure’s It List 2021: Best New Hotels in the World.
